About Us

The BeckRidge Chorale was founded in 1973 as the Plymouth Community Chorus by William Grimmer, the choral director at East Middle School in Plymouth, Michigan. Bill served as Musical Director and Conductor for four years until his retirement in 1977. Michael Gross assumed the position of Artistic Director and Conductor in the fall of 1978.

Since 1978, the organization has grown from 26 singers to nearly 120 dedicated members. We were a Silver Medalist in Johnny Mann’s Great American Choral Festival. The chorale has twice toured Washington, D.C. with invitational performances at Washington’s National Cathedral. Our group was invited to perform at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan. We also have performed with the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra and the Birmingham/Bloomfield Symphony. Our community service concerts include benefit performances for Children’s Hospital of Detroit, Angela Hospice, Salvation Army, and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

In 2006, the Plymouth Community Chorus became the BeckRidge Chorale in order to recognize the organization's regional outreach in serving all of southeastern lower Michigan and specifically the communities of Plymouth, Canton, and Northville. The name "BeckRidge Chorale" reflects this regional emphasis by combining "Beck" and "Ridge," two major roads passing through all three communities.

We are completely self-supported and a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

The Chorale Today

The BeckRidge Chorale is an adult choral ensemble with members drawn from southeastern lower Michigan. Village Voices is a select ensemble of 20 members drawn from the BeckRidge Chorale.  The Cherry Hill Singers is a non-auditioned choir to develop choral music performance skills for anyone who loves to sing.  Each group presents two main concerts a year.
